I'm looking for some new pedals for my nephew's hardtail for Xmas. He wants black or silver colour flats.

They need to be suitable for big feet, robust and maybe even serviceable. I don't want to spend more than £30.
What do you recommend?

thanks

DMR V8's

Been around for over 20 years and had a facelift a few years ago, fully serviceable with cheap spares and can be had for under £25

The burgtec composites do look spot on. Waiting for the orange to come back into stock now.

I got the updated DMR V8's but the bearings died in only a couple of months and the cost for the service kit was the same as the pedals. Chainreaction gave me a warranty refund and I got the nukeproof electron plastic ones instead. Feel grippier and more importantly over a year old and still super smooth.

Second vote for the Nukeproof mentioned above. Best I have had by far.

I second the Ht PA03A composite ones, I've had a pair for 2 years and still going strong, bearings perfect and all pins fine. Really nice big platform, much bigger than the NP composite ones or it's looky likeys. More akin to a vault in size I'd say. Also really light, 350g ish. Can't see what else you could want from a fatty tbh.

HT PA03A.

Mine are 3 years old, think I've greased them twice and just put new pins in them.

Just fitted HT PA03A’s to replace the stock pedals on mine and the difference is incredible. Foot feels so planted on them.

As others have reflected I love my V8’s

Ok they are the Ford Mondeo of the pedal world but I like them

Those generic ones that Exotic, Moove and Superstar used to sell.

They can survive a nuclear strike but are a bit more than 30 quid!

V8s aren't a Mondeo, Mondeos are great. V8s are, I dunno, a Volvo 940 Turbodiesel. And it's a saloon, not an estate. Old, basic, and only really a couple of steps away from being good, but they're pretty massive steps... And even though they're cheap, they're still too expensive for what you get.

The Nukeproof Electrons are imo rubbish as well- I love the plastic Horizons but they're more or less unavailable now. The electrons I had got relegated to the commuter and then the turbo bike and then the bin, they're just not a good shape. Maybe some shoes can work on them but none of mine do.

P03A is a good pedal that just happens to be cheap. No idea if it's the best or not but it's better than either of those two by an awful long way, better than Oneup's composite pedal too. It may actually be a Mondeo (mk3, 2.2 estate)

Is the obvious suggestion, however the Exotic ones are now £50+.

Have you seen any for £30-ish still?

HT PA03A

Cheap, tough, light and very grippy.

V8s are crap. The bearings are even worse than the v12s, and that's quite an achievement in itself.
I've just cancelled an order I had for Burgtec Comps that I've had for months as there's no stock. Good pedals though

I do like the Superstar Nanos, managed to bend the axle on one though.
I'll try the HTs on recommendation of this thread 🙂 want some plastics for the winter.

Diety Deftrap are also £40, possibly more down with the kids than the other brands too. I’ve had a set for a while now, really like them

Hohum. Being charitable to the not so local shop I had them on order with, maybe yours were a stock item and Burgtec are having production issues.

I've just ordered some Deftraps instead.

I've been running placcy Nukeproofs for 2ish years and they've been brilliant.

I got a set of the Superstar El Plastique from Planet X for something like £8 and they're really surprisingly good, I've only been running them for a few months so no idea about longevity but it's clear you don't need to pay a lot for decent pedals (though 5.10's probably grip on anything).
