I'm heading to Berwick for a few days this week and will have the gravel bike in tow.

Looking to head out solo for a decent gravel ride if possible. Any route recommendations for a half day(ish) type ride that I can do from Berwick as a circular or get a lift to begin a liner type ride?

I have seen the Sandstone Way but unsure if this might be a bit much terrain wise on the gravel bike.

Local knowledge much appreciated.

Cheers

I think most of that bit of the sandstone way is fine on gravel/CX. I certainly managed it in with 33mm file treads.

Other options are to look at the various national cycle network options. Route 1 up/down the coast. 68 heads inland. Coast and castles.

Not familiar enough to give you a loop though, sorry.

There’s a route runs from Newcastle to Edinburgh called Coast and Castles. You might be able to make a loop out of some of it.

Edit - I should’ve read the first reply 🙄

If you keep to the Scottish side you can basically ride anywhere (where there's a track).

I use a combination of www.bikehike.co.uk and Bing Maps (aerial & OS) to work out a route.

I'm a lot further west in the Borders but often ride my gravel across as far as Duns/Kelso and there are miles upon miles of farm tracks & estate roads so shouldn't be hard to string together a decent loop if you stay north of the Tweed.

As above an easy option is to go from Berwick to Holy Island asking the coastal NCN route. You'll easily be back for lunch but it's an out and back route

You could get a train to  Alnmouth and cycle back from there. it's lovely and the easy tracks along the coast North of there are fab

2nd ElShalimo. I am in Alnmouth at the moment and brought the gravel bike which is ideal. Coast track is brilliant and lots of the bridleways are easily doable on gravel tyres. Lots of quiet, pretty tarmac to connect up the off-road.

I did one recently following coastal track down and across to Holy Island, then inland from there back to Berwick via quiet roads, a nice run along the Tweed and a few small villages and castles. Nice half day with a couple of food/coffee stops.
