So. Long weekend approaching and nowhere to go. Following on from Jam Bo's suggestion on this thread:

https://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/we-couldnt-get-a-decent-run-up-to-our-pissy-little-garden-jump/

I'm trying to work out if I can do something with this bit of garden...

In the second picture you can just see the landing from the mini gap jump..

The challenges are:

I'm shit at DIY
I'm very shit at jumping.
The space is quite enclosed. You come in pretty much straight into it and then need to exit almost whence you came ( not really, but quite tight)... Does that suggest quarter pipe rather than berm thing?
We need to not break ourselves.

On the plus side, we can smash up the bricks and stuff and there's the remains of a huge tree stump to fix stuff to.

The stuff behind the wall seems to be a mix of stones, rubbish and soil.

The house over the road is having a new roof and so there are some old joists going begging.

WhaddleIDo?

Just to manage expectations, the thread title is just what JB said.... I won't be building anything particularly impressive ...

Some, erm... inspiration for you.

And if you don't build something like this, I'll be dissapointed. Should be no issues building about a 150 degree wall ride that will spit you back out into the landing of the gap jump.

Wallride

But, actually being serious...

You could build a small berm, maybe even using the 2 steps to prop it up, the landing points you right towards the edge of the steps - then going right in a mellow wooden berm, about 2-3ft high?

Again, more inspiration (but actually helpful, this time...)

Use what you've got to practice slow speed bike handling and manoeuvers, use the steps for step ups, step downs, etc... Maybe mix in some of the neighbours joists for some skinny action?

I meant going left in my second post, not right. Damn 15 minute edit function.

If he's not see the wall ride one, don't let him watch it. Unless you fancy building something just as janky!!

The other option as hopkinsgm says is to make up some temporary skinnies, should be easy with the stuff you have. Get ding some sidehops up the steps, then onto back wheel and off the bigger step. Basic, low consequence trials stuff.

Bit more inspiration.

Right
The missus has decreed sun lounger patio terrace thing ( yes I know) so only have time for something quick and temporary.

Knock down some wall and dig a trench...

Pile the earth onto a mound...

Bit of watering to make it grow.

But to be honest it didn't really work. Not be of us know what to do with a pyramid shaped bit of earth, and landing it would have slammed us into the garage wall.
So we binned that and just made a berm....

It does rather, doesn't it.

Which is a shame, as o was hoping the missus might allow us to keep it.

Awesome. No point mucking about with raised beds, patios and other such garden nonsense when you can go for a nice berm to drop with a nuked-from-orbit aesthetic. Love it.

I'm impressed with that! Was expecting a couple of planks and a small pile of mud but that looks braw.

When I saw the words "dig trench" I was concerned for the longevity of the OP's wife (not so much I'd have told the Police as I was keen to see the wall ride finished).
