Hi guys ive been thinking of getting a bike fit for my road bike, however im regularly doing with 50 60 mile rides without any major discomfort with the set up i have now. So my question is would a bike fit benefit me or is it just something that lots of people do that is overrated?
Also interested in this - would be good to hear any London recommendations too.
Ive just had one as i couldn't get rid of a lower back pain that came on around 15-20 mile mark and wouldnt shift. It was a new bike and ive never had the pain before so it had to be fit related.
Id swapped seat posts stems moved the saddle fore/aft altered the bars the hoods the cleats
. Even tried new saddle shoes and pedals i was at a loss and seemed to just be moving things for nothing
I then went to a retul advanced fitter i was in with him for four hours. At the end i was kinda thinking what have we moved and will it have been a waste of money as all the bits we moved were a few mm
But it wworked.cleats adjusted. Saddle moved back a few mm. Up a few mm. Bars dropped 12mm. Bars rotated slightly and hoods moved slightly. All little things but i went out and did 25 miles with no pain infact i felt better on the bike next day i did 50 miles no pain and then 60 miles again no pain
So to me it was well worth it as id have never have found the sweet spot. But i did have a niggle where you dont
I'd say if you're comfortable for long rides then you probably won't benefit hugely from a bike fit. The more niggles you have, the more likely a bike fit will benefit.
I found one hugely beneficial as I'm quite long-legged for my height and have to go for a very "non pro" road bike setup 🙂 I went to Rich Melik at Freespeed in West London - very much recommend him, he's an excellent fitter and all-round good bloke. http://www.freespeed.co.uk/
