Sad news, the Russion freeride dude Kirill Benderoni who popped up a couple of years ago launching massive gaps and drops on a hardtail is in a coma after overshooting one of his jump lines. Prognosis not great, but healing vibes sent his way that guy is nails.

I don't understand this - to quote;
"unfortunately, the insurance will only cover a basic rehabilitation program which will not be sufficient for Kirill's type of injury. This is why we want to raise funds"
When you do big jumps, drops and other extremely high risk stuff, it is inevitable that your going to come a cropper sooner or later to some extent. Why on earth would you not be insured properly to cover care when you do smash yourself into the ground?

Money probably. Not everywhere has an NHS.
Because that's how health insurance works. There is a cost/benefit calculation to be made - sometimes not by you as the beneficiary.

Young men will take risks and often don't have sufficient income to get comprehensive insurance cover.See also organisers not covering riders on their 'go big or go home' events, including Rampage, knowing that people will turn up and have a go because they need the coverage. It's something about the whole industry that really bothers me - it relies on a steady stream of young people (mostly men) prepared to risk their lives and long term health for some kudos and sponsorship. And all us desk jockeys watch the footage on a Monday lunchtime and wince as another rider hits the deck but carry on watching anyway.
