Finally getting a garden shed to use as a workshop. Need a vice for the workbench. Budget is low. Any recommendations please? I saw a good recommendation on here a few months ago but unable to find it. Thanks

You're best off with a good second hand one in my opinion. FB marketplace/Gumtree/local car boots would be the best place to look. Check that the jaws aren't too smashed up though. Record, Woden are good brands to look for, but it's not too crucial if it feels well built and moves nicely.

This is good for a new one: https://www.axminster.co.uk/axminster-trade-vices-mechanic-s-vice-ax947219 (get the soft jaws for it too)

But worth looking for a secondhand one, usually an easy little project to clean up and repaint.

There's a constant stream of well used Record vices on eBay, just set up a search for a local one as the delivery will kill you!

Depends on what you need it for. When I was setting up my workshop on a budget 15 years ago I could only afford a generic £25-30 Screwfix one. I tackle quite a range of bike mechanics and joinery and I've never felt under-viced.

I'd go for an ebay Record too.

Another vote for a Record in decent condition on eBay. Watch and wait for a few weeks and / or find one with cheap postage.

I find facebook marketplace a good place for collection-only items.
It's like ebay used to be in terms of prices

I had a massive lump of a vice for a few years, it was always in the way, i've recently replaced it with a much smaller one that swivels, much more usable.

Consider whether it will get in the way and what you actually need size wise.

Try a local autojumble, old stuff is usually loads better than new stuff. OH got a 4" Record for a tenner.
