You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
It looks like we'll be heading up to Aviemore on Sunday and putting a combination of routes together to make a good long day ride.
(this is plan B as Beinn a' Ghlo looks like it might be getting a bit of rain this week to make it less than it's best and a bit too 'wadey').
I've got a gpx of Kenny Wilson's route in Inshriach but would welcome any ideas/gpx files of good trails there or that we can link up with. Will be car based for a change so can vary the starting point.
How is that KW route? I used to read a lot of recommendations for Inshriach on here years ago but none now (other than for cake). I have done a search so maybe I just imagined it. Nice singletrack is what we are after.
Inshriach has been affected by both felling and windfall. You can always go an explore a bit though. There's a decent ride to be had by riding up Feshie to Carnachuin then following the forest road/singletrack to Baileguish and playing around the Badan Dubh area.
As for the Lairig Ghru, I'd not be tempted to go any higher than the track just up from Rothiemurchus Lodge. That gives you a wee bit of a walk and a great descent all the way back to Inverdruie.
The KW route (of which I'm sure you've been familiar) uses some of that.

I went up the Lairig Ghru last year - as far as I thought was bikeable then left the bike and walked to the top. I think I could have taken the bike a bit further than I did so I know for this time.
I'd like to be doing the 'inner cairngorm loop' but it might not be suitable for us yet.
Have you had a lot of rain up there? Forecast that looked dire a few days ago seems less pessimistic (always the way).
We had some rain last night but hardly a downpour. In the main, tracks have been drying out well.
Rode Carn Ban Mor on Sunday - up the Land Rover track, across the tops to Sgurr Gaoth then all the way to the Argyle Stone. Broke path to the weather station then finished with the zig zag descent of much awesomeness before caning it back to the cake shop. A brilliant day out that if you get the weather is a true high level classic.
Rode out from Aviemore via Feshie which was absolutely glorious in the early morning sunshine.
I did exactly that route last year Sanny. It was brilliant. Although I forgot advice I had been given and at the bottom of that zig zag attempted to follow a line on the map which wasn't there on the ground. I ended up carrying the bike up the burn as it easier than thrashing through the heather and bog.
Ha! Ha! Me too. I went the other way last August to find the bottom of the trail - a complete work of fiction as I recall. 😀
How about Loch Ghamma, Inchriach Bothy, Cake or death / Inca Trail, climb back up to get to Feshie Bridge, up Feshie then do the KW route?
Dave in Bothy can show you on a map. Just spend some money in his shop! 😀
Yeah, I should pay attention to what he tells me this time. You (or anyone else reading) wouldn't happen to have a gpx for cake or death/inca trail? I've just done a bit of a search and only come up with someones's strava which isn't downloadable. The rest I kind of know.
I've done that as a route too zigzag69. I only broke a chain and my girlfriend's good humour that day though.
We rode the Bienn a Ghlo loop last Sunday and it was powder dry.

Been meaning to try that route for a while. Which bit is a work of fiction and which bit is rideable?
McM - I saw your post and it was influential in our decision making. If it stays dry enough it still might be favourite.
Balfa - it's at NH879051. On the map it's a single dotted path across a clearing in the forestry that crosses the burn. The path is very sketchy then vanishes and the burn is wide and very manky/stagnant looking. To avoid it, you'd have to go up to Feshiebridge.
The zigzag track is fun. Lower down the heather is so thick that you can just fall sideways into (as I did) and it's just a big cushioning mattress.
