Forget corona for a minute and think Terrys Belly, Sixtapod and Melted Welly at BPW. I want an alpine resort that has three or four entertaining trails like this.
The kids riding is developing nicely:
They can both ride all the blues at BPW.
The older one on a full suss 26er is technically capable on roots and rocks, getting to grips with steeper stuff and is doing small jumps, and will attempt some of the easier reds, and does a few decent jumps on Willy Waver.
Younger one ona 24" full suss corners fabulously but needs smoother flowy stuff, will spend all day on Terrys Belly.
So where in Europe? Distance no object...
nothing productive but i too would like to know where to take the kids int eh alps !
Morzine has all the answers 🙂
Morzine, Les Get and Avoriaz ticks those boxes. There are greens and blues across all three of them.
Yes Super Morzine sector that weeksy's video shows would be your starting point. Next step up in trails would be over Les Gets but things escalate quite quickly there and at Chatel so would be quite easy to find them a bit out of their depth.
ps does anyone know if they're restoring Ride Humble, after it got trashed with the chair upgrade? (dreaming of a morzine return)
There was a trail at Chatel called the snake or something that had lots of berms, I seem to rember that was a lot of fun and possibly beginner freindly?
Montgenevre would be a winner. Everywhere is really flowy, always quiet.
Their skill level in 2021 may be more relevant though.....!
Another vote for Morzine. Plenty there for families and you see loads of families there. Heaps of biking options. A decent number of greens (which are more like BPW easier blues), and a load of blues (which are at the harder end of BPW blues/easier reds). There is also plenty to do off the bike with swimming, ice skating, skate park, go ape, tennis, lakes, rivers, etc. Its also reasonably well connected so you can go out for half a day, meet up with others for lunch, get a sneaky extra ride in for yourself, you aren't limited to full days out.
Morzine. My kids, wife and I all love the place. Riding for all and so much else to do. It doesn’t suffer too much from ‘quiet ski resort’ summer syndrome like some places.
Love it.
We’re booked for August and I’m preparing my quiet crying session for mid July when it transpires we really really REALLY can’t go.
Next year though...
Livigno. Flow trails one side, Moar gnar on the other, plus fantastic XC riding all around (Stelvio National Park)
And the lifts (should normally be) open until mid Sept.
Amazing place!
Currently airbnb's taking bookings in all of the places mentioned. The various websites say they are opening lifts in june, Macron and Johnson have agreed to let people travel backwards and forwards. Ferrys running.
Why isn't this going to happen?
Why isn’t this going to happen?
If things stay as they are then, yes, it may well happen. If we (or they) get a second wave of infections then all ̶b̶e̶t̶s̶ holidays are potentially off..
I was just fantaszing..
Les Carroz near Samoens is nice. I prefer staying Samoens but you get over to Carroz easily enough and the ride back from Morillon along the river is nice.
5plusn8 - you're thinking of Serpentine, a brilliant trail for all abilities. The blues at Chatel are pretty good for progression too if you know which order to work through them in.
Serpentine! Yes. Ok Chatel might be the place. Can you tell me which order to work through them?
Tracey, that foto looks ace I showed the kids (they are 10 and 13) and they desperatly want to go there. What trail is that?
Bookmarked! Cheers folks some good suggestions there. Our Alps trip was supposed to be starting the end of next week. Hopefully go later in the year. Thing is though, 14 days quarantine when returning?
No quarantine from France or schengen area.
Took my lad to Saalbach a couple of times and he didn't have too many issues. Having been to Solden without kids I think this would be okay as well.
Les Gets - quieter than Morzine, more family friendly. Days riding end up at the swimming lake.
