Looks like I might be OK to get back on the bike after my ongoing health concerns (find out for sure next week).

I've missed the boat for this year's cross season (boo), but if I can get out I'll be doing steady base road miles. Going to use the cross bike for that, but I fancy disc-ing it up (frame's an Uncle John, so it has a disc tab).

Considering forks - like the look of those Spot Brand carbon disc CX forks.

But what about suitable wheels? Need something that will take 25x700c tyres.

Suggestions? Oh, and not too pricey... Ta!

I run Hope Hoops on Crests and 28mm GP4Seasons but they are VERY tight. I can just get them on but god help me if I get a puncture...

IOW I'd check first if roadie tyres will work on your chosen 29er rim.

OK. Cheers. I use Conti GP4S for winter, so worth knowing.

This is all idle curiosity really, so I haven't looked into it much.

Why faff with an MTB rim?

I'd use Stan's Iron Cross. Designed for narrower tyres and the higher pressures, 385g, disc specific. Done.

I'm looking at discing-up my Kaffenback.

Cotic do some suitable wheels for £135 a pair. The ones they fit to their RoadRat.

Road width rims, CX tough, disc hubs, and rim brake compatible for swapping around a bit!

I've got Superstar hubs, DT Rev spokes and 29er Crest rims on my CX/Commuter. They weigh around 1590g, and I run 25mm GP4Seasons on them.

They were a tight fit at first, but with the right technique they come on and off much more easily.

I'd have thought the extra clearance afforded on such a frame would be the perfect opportunity to run a nice lightweight 32mm odd tyre. Perfect for UK roads IMO. I'm convinced that most roadies only ride 23s or 25s because that's all they can fit. Fine on the race bike but the sacrifice in speed (nominal) is worth it for comfort.

Forgot to mention, my wife's all-round disc road bike has 35mm Schwalbe kojaks - works great. Clearance enough for CX too. THey're on Velocity Blunt SL rims which seemed like a nice compromise on width between 29er mtb rim and really narrow road rims (plus she preferred the look of a proper disc rim).

I have 25c tyres on my (now broken-framed) winter bike. Will just use them up on roadifying the cross bike. 25c suits me fine on the road, and my mudguards will fit.

I sort of got me thinking that one of the worst things about winter road riding is killing endless sets of Open Pros, hence getting disced up.

But the idea that Cotic do something suitable for a not horrendous amount of cash (I'm sure they're not as light as other suggestions) and then a suitable fork will still be cheaper than a frameset (OK, not a dRibble winter frame).

Just idle thinking. Some interesting thoughts - much appreciated all.
