You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Just seen there's a race on Saturday at bedgebury and for some reason... Entered. Figured it's only an hours drive so what the heck!
What sort of standard is it likely to be? And terrain? In comparison with a gorrick open, for example?
I've also entered my mate. It's his first race. Told him it's a fun ride. Well... It should be. Sort of.
The terrain is tight and twisty singletrack through the trees, mostly not surfaced so if it's wet it can get muddy. Each lap has about 50m height gain so not extreme but the leaders will do 8 laps in the hour so 400m climbing give or take. Bike handling skills are pretty much as important as fitness.
Standard? Well there are usually some pretty quick people and some who will struggle to keep riding for the whole hour.
It is a really nice fun event though, run by some of the friendliest and most enthusiastic bikers you'll ever meet.
Have fun! I used to race and help out there before moving to Scotland a year ago and I miss it... But not enough to make me want to go back!
Not done one for a while but am familiar with the course area, great setup with some really good singletrack, mega twisty. It will be a far better event for your Mate's first as a bit more low key compared to the intimidating large fields at Gorrick (used to do loads of them as well, very good!)
Will be a bit greasy after todays rain but not to bad, no chalk like nearby Friston etc which is like ice after a downpour.
If you still able to move you should do a lap of the red xc loop afterwards as a lot of work has been done on that and it will be riding fast regardless of puddles due to the hard pack underneath
They normally put photos on their Facebook page as well [url=
Have done a couple of their XC races and the '13 Insomnia.
They were nice low key 'club' events without any pretensions or particularly big fields 8).
Hoon around the race course and then go spend another 1 - 2 hours around the rest of the centre afterwards.
Assuming it's the same race course area, it's mainly narrowtrack through trees and fairly twisty. There are wider sections to pass people though.
