You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Popped over today on the cx bike and couldn't help myself and sneaked through into the closed section to have a look at the work going on. Nice! From a rough ole decent to a lovely bermed downhill. Good work whoever you are. Like the little black section too.
there's a downhill track, and a black section there? Take some pics next time you are there.
I haven't been to Bedgebury in ages: I kinda decided it wasn't worth the slog through the hub deep mud sections.
Not much mud at the moment. They have been laying a fair amount of aggregate where there used to be alot of peaty soft mud. The black section is very short and just consists of a couple of drops and tight berms. The downhill I mentioned is only about 30 yards long but hopefully they will take encouragement from their efforts there and do alot more of that on the rest of the circuit.
i went recently too much improved than when i last went. the boggy stuff was not as bad and i did enjoy the little black run so i pedalled back up and had another go.
Thumbs up to whoever is doing the work because it is getting better.
I'll be having a quick spin round this around 17th October will it be rideable by then?
The only bits that will get muddier are a couple of short fire track connecting sections (about 1/2 way round) otherwise it looks like it will hold up quite well this winter.
youi rode through a closed section???
No. Rode along another section close by. The work looked finished, but I guess the pixies want it all to settle for a while before opening it up.
ah no worries then 🙂
I hope they aren't laying more lumps of concrete on the track this time !
Last time I went I remember that a number of the muddy holes had basically been filled in with what looked like builders rubble 🙁
I am part of the ignorant grunt labour for this and other bits. Usual thing applies - the club (BFCC) gets involved in trail improvements, design and building of some new bits. The FC supports a bit, and is meant to do the ongoing maintenance of all the bits they adopt into the singletrack.
The bit you are talking about is the section one downhill bit. To be honest the 2nd and 3rd berms ain't right yet, and the Insomnia 12 hour event last night means that soil is showing through. No trail build day for a few weeks so I would be wary on that.
The "black bit" is firming in but may have drainage issues still.
We have also done some work to make sure that the "slippy hill" route at the end of the singletrack (turn right instead of left onto the family trail) holds up better in the mud season.
There are some other bits away from the singletrack route we have done work on which you may not know about unless you ride/dig with the club. And there are some very interesting plans for the next year. 😉
There is still a problem with the FCs use of contractors who seem to have little knowledge of what bikers need, who dump loose rocks on flat corners and in holes without really understanding why the holes are there. The FC is also spending tons of time putting large rocks to form terraces near the visitor centre - when we could have really done with some proper rocks for the trails...
We really could do with more help in digging/building and we have tons and tons of tools. If anybody is interested in helping we tend to build once a month - usually the second saturday - send an e mail to me (address in profile) and I will pass it on to our Trail-building leader.
