Planning a ride in bedgebury sometime in the next few days, parking is extortionate though at £8. Anybody know if there's any free parking nearby?

I have been parking in park lane, just off the a229 just after a village called Hartley. Drive to end of lane and there are about 10 parking spaces. Unload car and follow lane past gate and it join the bedgebury loop about a third of way round

Look on google maps for Park Lane, Cranbrook side of the forest.
Drive along the lane until you reach the hill down into the forest.
Park up and ride into the forest for a short distance and you will see a marker for the XC trail.

Edit : Beaten to it!

£8 for a day out too much?

It helps pay for trail maintenance and facilities etc, hell I pay almost that when I have to go to the shops with the Mrs and park for a few hours in town.

Join Bedgebury Forest Cycle Club with the car park pass option. The money you pay gets invested by the club in to the trails.

Thanks for the quick replies guys.

@feisty, yes as a university student with very little money it is a bit much for me actually, considering I have to drive an hour to get there.

Nice in theory but the 1 and only time ive been to Bedgebury the trails were badly maintained and tbh not worth the effort or the price. Im all for paying for parking at trail centres and agree it helps them maintain them but £8 is a bit steep to pay for a riding around a badly maintained trail.

who is forcing you exactly? Have you informed the police?

Obviously there's no correlation between lack of maintenance and the vast number of [s]bell-ends[/s]users who refuse to contribute...

Parking charges were very reasonable when the trail area was a separate venue to the Pinetum. Once combined the charges shot up.

I park in the layby which stinks of pee on the A21 and ride in on the bridleway. This leads to the red route.

I would happily pay maybe £5 to park directly to the Boars as they work hard, but the last 2 visits there recently most of the red route seemed to be diverted on fire roads. And I believe that little or none of the parking revenue goes to the Boars.
