Blue skies, crisp air, slightly hardpacked ground

But I have a stinking cold 😡

Regale me with your reasons why you can't ride today. The more annoying, trivial or dull reasons not to ride, the better

I've been unable to ride most of the week due to manflu.

Feeling very slightly better today so may venture out for a very gentle ride.

We are out in the Peak for Kevin's birthday. It's the first time since 1987 we haven't had some kind of mtb ride.
He's been off the bike since the Alps incident in August and after last week's visit with the Consultant its looking like its going to be quite a while longer.
He had set a goal for a New Year's Day ride as something to work towards but that's now out of the window.
We arrived in the van last night to make the most of it

So it's minus 2 at the moment. The sky is blue and we will walk the trails instead.

Sorry, a month of missed night rides due to late nights at work and traffic jams and I'm shamelessly going out later as bike bus operator and responsible (ish) adult with my teenage son and two of his friends to QE Park.
Sympathies for the cold and missed riding though on such a lovely day.

Wife's birthday, will have to be duty to indulge her every whim. This is far worse than having a cold because I feel physically fine but my mental health would suffer if I went out for a ride!

Enjoy the trails Tracey!! I would have ventured up to Fox House/Devils/Stanage was I not a victim of manflu

Sorry... I got out and it was beautiful 😍

Frosty cold morning spin suits the Singlespeed perfectly

Rediscovered the coldest spot in Britain which is a hypothermic wee pocket of cold air that resides along Panholes Road near Blackford 🥶🥶

But I'm working all weekend. However, Mon-Wed is looking promising: inversion weather, you just need to get high enough...

Just had to renew the raddle on the rams. Bloody cold on the hands rubbing oily paint on the chest of a wet sheep! Just in the warm up and then will weigh the ewe lambs to make sure nothing is going backwards in condition. When that's done maybe I can go for a ride or a run on the hill. It is properly glorious out there, if a little cold. First hard frost of the year. Had to de-ice the ducks pond this morning.

Me too. Not quite stinking, but bad enough that I don’t think that going out for a ride is advisable.

one of those mornings where riding for work is just as good as riding for fun...

Bloody hell @Tracey that’s quite a run… but good to hear you’re still making the most of it.

I’ve had a sore throat for weeks and am trying to recover. Tomorrow will be wife’s birthday walk so no riding with the kids either.

Set the alarm for 6:15. Went off gently and woke me and Mrs Tired. Almost sacked it off but Mrs TiRed used the motivational statement “Well you’ve woken me up now, so you may as well go” 🤣.

It worked. 90 km before 10 and off to town for lunch having also done some chores 😇.

Thanks - I can't really blame old age as I've suffered on and off since my twenties. This bout has apparently sorted itself then come back several times which is depressing and a bit scary.  You start to think that's it for life - terrifying!

I've managed some gentle road rides but this week it's been worse than ever so being sensible. Really fancied a big day out in Swaledale too...

We live up a very steep farm track so have been hobbling up and down it for a bit of exercise and fresh air.

Coolant. Or rather missing coolant, specifically from my car which weirdly has two reservoirs, one of which appeared to be bone dry.

I had prepped like a boss too. Had all my gear ready night before, had brekky and rolled bike out of garage to car, freshly brewed coffee for the drive. Nope. All back in the house while I spent the small window I had to ride sorting car out. I’m like a bear with a bad heed now as I was looking forward to a crisp morning ride testing out new dropper I fitted mid week. FFS

Caught Covid 4 weeks ago, can’t manage much more than a 10 minute walk to the shops and back, never mind a bike ride. 😢
Very annoying, as my Facebook feed is full of group post saying how lovely and dry the trails are.
To top it off, I was in the middle of building my hardtail back up for the winter, when the lurgy struck. 😡
Fingers crossed, this fatigue will improve soon…

Had a good 5 hours out walking the trails up from Hope, along the ridge and the back of Mam Tor before finishing off down Cavedale.

Didn't see many out on bikes and the trails were in perfect condition for the time of year

I always think riding Cavedale is easier than walking it.

I did actually manage to force myself out despite still feeling like shit.

Just an easy 20 miles taking in one of the local hills.

Still feel like crap but at lest i got out.

Well for anyone that didn't get out, at least you didn't have the defrost pain I had in my feet about 10 mins after getting home.. ouch. Lovely day for a road ride but setting off a bit later to avoid the frost meant riding past dusk to get home and it got coooold!

Was meeting a mate up in the Peak for a road ride this morning - he has not long recovered from a crash and is having knee surgery in 3 weeks, so looking at the forecast, we decided last night that a big breakfast at Hassop and a stroll down to the Trek store in Bakewell would be better.

It was showing -4.5 when I drove through Chatsworth just before 9, and one of the roads near me in Ilkeston was closed by the Police due to ice from a spring that runs across the road.

Club road rides tomorrow have been cancelled as we don't fancy a repeat of what we like to call "Black (Ice) Sunday", when we had three riders hospitalised after a sudden drop in temperature just as the rides were setting off.

It was indeed beautiful out there today.

Out over Cut Gate from Langsett, then cheeky bits off Derwent Edge. 50Km 1600m on the Eeb.

(Probably a bit too cheeky on a sunny weekend TBH ...but couldn't resist. Nobody was grumpy anyway - so win)

Conditions were great, frozen on the tops - hardly any mud...well... until the descent back down North America coming back into Langsett, which was a total mess and made the clean up a bit of an unexpected chore.

No worries though, I had a great day!

Went out predawn on the cx bike, it was cold and crisp with a splash of mud to keep me on my toes. Still recovering from the lurgy so wasn't at my best but thoroughly enjoyed myself.

Got back, had breakfast with the kids before taking my son to his football match.

Happy to…. I have a 13 month old.

This morning consisted of us knowing we needed to be out the house so he’s less cranky so left without having breakfast and got to soft play 40 mins away for 9:30…. The days of getting rides in religiously are just gone at the moment. They will come back, but I’ve sacrificed living, for little un! As they absolutely turn your life upside down when they’re so young.

I was out today with my son and two of his friends, who are in their early teens.  He's ridden a lot since very small but we've (quite by accident) stoked a little fire of MTB in his friends on a couple of recent days out and they're just brilliant to be out with.
Dry and grippy trails but it was barely above freezing when I loaded the bikes back on the car at 3.30 and I'm in the South!

I really wanted to get out on the bike yesterday but we did a tough hike on Friday and my legs were a bit sore, so I ended up walking into town and back for a coffee, wishing all the time that I should be out riding!

Because I have an essay due on Thursday with a lot still to write. My favourite riding conditions too, cold, dry, no wind. I think I might cry.

The only thing that offers me even a glimmer of comfort is, I don't have decent winter gloves for riding when its this cold. Only my stupid Briskers, which are worse than useless when the temperature is this low.
