My old Hope pro II hubs need new bearings. MBbearings.co.uk sells them very reasonable price, but are they decent or should I look elsewhere.

They will be std bearings so you just need to get the number off the bearing and then chose where to get it from. I have used Simply Bearings and always had good service. There is a debate about buying cheaper bearing, Chinese etc, and replacing frequently or getting a name and hope to have it last a bit longer.

No experience of MBbearings.

Unbranded bearings are usually cheap for a reason. Go for a brand name bearing like INA / FAG / SKF.

Ccost savings on cheap bearings are usually down to slacker manufacturing tolerances. This leads to less than perfect contact between balls and races, leading to earlier wear and failure.

Usually.

In theory, you can still get a perfect set, just less likely.

Katec/Airborne1001 (I think) is one of the best sources for better bearings. Or try your LBS...

really? realllllyyyyy......

a guy who over fills his bearings with grease and sells them as extreme use waterproofed bearings.? 😡

standard skf's or enduros do the job fansastically.

Yarr.
Still cheap if you buy them as a bearing, as opposed to a mountainbike bearing which will automatically be 7 times the price.

Yep, not seen the extreme waterproof claim, but I got some for a m8's XC hub & throughly inspected the seals to see if they'd been damaged & they were perfect. Over the years I've seen the 'adding extra grease' posts on numerous thread, not just from Kaeses (Katec), also they were proper branded bearings not cheap Chinese rubbish & yes I will be using him again

I tried Enduro bearings in my pro2 front, they lasted 6 months which is average. IMO modern hopes are a rubbish design, bearings far too small to save a bit of weight n'that..

ive used mbbearings in the past and they're fine

sent me enduro bearings instead of full complement ones which was nice

I've only had em in a few months though, and not ridden loads, but they seem fine - good service, fast turnaround and good price

Hmmm...

Got all of 5 weeks out of a pair of Enduro Front hub bearings (c 700km) and 3 months out of their BB bearings. Both falling some way short of the Brand X Japanese / XT units supplied with the bike.

Might try SKF or FAG next time but they are roughly double the price of the Enduro items which in themselves aren't exactly cheap.
