has anyone used these kits from them? any good and easy for a very inept mechanically minded fool?
the press with t handle looks like its the only tool required to press them in and specific to the bike model/year so cant really go to wrong
whats the puller like for getting the bearings out?
Yep, they're great.
The puller tools got all the bearings out of both linkages, except one which disintegrated and left the outer race stuck in. I asked BearingProTools for advice, and they knocked me up a custom puller free of charge to get the outer race out (it worked..) - would recommend.
Conversely, I didn't find them great - the smooth, expanding surface just didn't grip the bearing enough (even when tight). That reminds me: I was going to try and find a way to rough up the surface..
hmmmm mixed start ha!
i have access to a vice for whacking with a hammer, it looks really straight forward, but is this not the reality? these are bearings ill likely change every year, or before and after every winter, so haven't been in the links for years on end corroding
Th drifts they do to press bearings in a brilliant but the expanding internal pullers are rubbish!
Try Kinetic Bike Bearings, I have their extraction kit and it’s not failed me yet. WMC kits work but are somewhat limited with awkward stuff.
Will bearing race punches work for removing the bearings?
I bought the kit for my 2009 nomad with the bike back then, still works perfectly on the mk 4.
You'll need a punch type remover or sliding hammer to get the blind one's out.
