I'm going to race a few of the BC events next year in sports cat. (assuming no injury etc). The first is close to me and I've raced there a bit, ridden there a lot, so would like to do as well as i can. Therefore I'd like not to start right at the back.
I'm pretty much certain gridding is based on your points total? I assume your points total goes to zero at the start of every year? But for the first BC event of the year is the gridding based on this years points or last years?
I didnt have a full license this year so have no points. I'm wondering about trying to do some BC points gaining winter series to try and get a few points to mean I wont be gridded last - does it work like that?
Based on previous series points, then bc points. No points means you're a bit stuffed really!
So if I travel down to do some of the soggy bottom series in Jan (closest points winter series to me I think) and manage to do well enough to get some points, while I will still be gridded near the back, they'll count for something?
Your points total can`t go to zero at the end of the year or everbody would be on the back row of the grid for the first race of the season?
The "best" rider stays "the best" until their next race...
It'll depend on the series. If it's the National Points Series I'm not sure as I haven't been able to get to one for a few years but if it's a regional BC series (Southern XC type stuff) then the first round grid is usually based on the series results from the previous year and then rounds 2 onwards are based on the series standings for the current year.
The nationals will be based on last seasons overall standings first, then it will go on the current points tally and then a random allocation.
Obviously there will be people missing from the last seasons standing i.e. those that change category etc so for example, I finished in 40's overall last season and then for the first race this season I gridded on the second row.
As said above, after that it goes on current series standings, then points overall, then a random allocation.
I think this is right anyway
Wherever you are, you'll need to sprint like buggery off the line. Just be faster than those in front.
Cheers all, for our regional (Welsh) it's a free for all lining up in sport. I was wondering about the Nationals but sounds like I'll be at the back even if I manage to get a few points before April.
Krypton - my starts were atrocious but since racing cross this winter they've improved a lot, I'm now quicker off the block than people in the rows in front. Think the weekly practise, intensity of cross and knowing if you don't get moving you'll hold up 100 snarling riders has something to do with it!
Bit of a thread dredge, but are there any winter xc series relitivel close to S.Wales that you get BC points for beyond the soggy bottom ones in Plymouth? I can't find any but my googling is poor!
Cheers, those are both non-competitive, but using the filters and expanding my search area suggests i was right it is just the soggy bottom events.
