So my new bike has one of these I've never done one before always had threaded so can the STW point me in the direction of a good installation/removal tool or is there some way I can use other 'tools' as makeshift??
Any advice greatly appreciated

Park Tool BBT-90 for removal (or the BBT-90.3 which comes with bushings to use in conjunction with a bearing press for fitting as well)

Because there are now 4 bikes in the cave with various press fit BBs, I invested in a BBB BTL-95. Makes the job very easy.

+1 For the Park bearing drifting kit - it works a dream and I was able to shift out my bearings easily. I used a length of threaded bar, washers and bolts to fit an XTR BB92 and have realised that it's still running quietly and smoothly after three and a half years of use. That's genuinely impressive stuff.

Getting the threaded bar lined up was a worry, but large diameter washers held everything in place. It's surprising how little torque is needed to nip up the bearing sleeves in place. The removal tool is a drift, use with a mallet not a hammer and you'll be fine. I did this with a brand new carbon full suss frame when I swapped from SRAM to Shimano cranks.
If you've a carbon frame, you need to carefully clean the interface between the BB Shell and the BB itself but you should leave un-greased - counter intuitive if you've an allow frame when you should grease liberally before pressing in the bearings.
I believe that the Park tool comes with the necessary bushings to help centre the bearings.

As standards go, I quite like this one. The nylon bearing sleeve dampens out the creaks and you don't use unreasonable force to shift things. The only downside is the incompatibility with Dub/30mm crank axles.
I've got a kit similar to the one above (more dies I think) that does various press fit install and extract. Completely painless. Was < £30 on Alibaba, took an age to come but best value bit of bike kit I've bought by a long way.

I've rubber malleted it, and squished it in a vice, but rubber mallet is quicker.
Threaded bar and big repair washers worked fine for me too. To remove the rubber hammer is your friend
