There's a BB386 Evo which has an external threaded BB that fits a BB30 chainset to a normal threaded frame. My Sequoia came with one, it seems fine.
Now, I'm not sure if there's different length axles to fit it compared to what a normal BB30 crank would have, but the BB is available. I think my crank is a Gossamer Pro.

Rotor BSA30 BB should work

Here you go

Does that suggest you need a longer axle though?

So my normal shimano HT2 one won't? Frame has normal screw threads.

No

This FSA crank has a 30mm axle (the "3" in the 386), just like BB30 cranks, BUT the axle is the same length as a normal 24mm axle is (designed for an 86mm BB shell, hence the "86" in the 386).

It's VERY much like the current crop of cranks from Raceface, Hope et al on MTB's, using a 30mm axle but a much wider one, that still uses external bearings (or a MUCH wider press fit standard than the BB30/PF30).

Rotor screw fit BB's will work, as will FSA screw fit. Don't quote me, but you may be able to run a Hope screw fit BB too, but I'd check with them first...

[s]Eh? I thought we were trying to fit a BB30 crank?[/s]
EDIT Ignore that. I'm tired and scan reading too quickly. 🙂
Your Shimano is 24mm axle, the FSA is 30mm axle. You'll need a new BB

This seems to suggest a normal BB30 crank won't fit but a BB386 will fit nearly anything, so you should be OK.

I had a quick peek at my BB386 the other day, it seems it runs a normal 6806 bearing which is replaceable rather than buying new cups every time. That renders the name on the cups largely irrelevant:)

Not according to the original question.

Corrected myself!
In fairness it IS a 30mm axle... 🙂

As long as you've got the press tools to DIY, it's suddenly rendered these new 30mm axle cranks a rather useful "standard" if I do say so myself, given how cheap half decent 6806 bearings are... No more proprietary sizes for once!

Ok, so the axle is bigger than mine, but I can fit a new BB. That works for me, thanks folks 🙂

Essentially, yes, that's it in a nutshell.
I wouldn't swap an SLX or above crank for one though..... personally. 🙂

EDIT
That crank you've linked to looks the same as the one on my Sequoia. Be aware, that if it is, it's got a proprietary chainring bolt pattern and you're stuck with their rings. Double check it.

Well it depends how much he wants for the cranks really. I wanted a compact back on it, and the only one I have is R500.
