So i've ordered a Canyon AL 29 8.9 - does anyone know if it has a BB30 bottom bracket?
It says it has a 'shimano-press-fitt' bottom bracket on the web site.
I've emailed Caynon but the responce is just as confusing.

Many thanks for your e-mail.

We specifiy press fit BB bearings on the Grand Canyon AL 29'er frame.

The commonly used BB30 moniker actually relates to a specific type of BB. In the case of the 8.9 we fit a SRAM S1400.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions.

Sincerely,

I already have a BB30 Sram XX Chainset which i'd really like to fit to this bike....
any ideas?

The SRAM S1400 comes in both flavours, PF30 and BB30. The two designated flavours are just the BB, meaning that you can use a different (but similarly sized) crankset, but you won't be able to use the XX BB that came with the BB30 SRAM XX chainset you've bought.

Does that make sense?

er yeah sort of - so both versions of the SRAM S1400 BBn will take a 30mm axel so the chainset will fit but a XXBB30 BB might not.
lucky i didnt get the XX BB when i bought the chainset...

Thanks

Yeah, pretty much with regards the chainset. If you check out the SRAM S1400 the Chainset is the same, but is offered with both threaded and press fit 30mm BB, meaning that the only thing that will be different will be the BB.

but a XXBB30 BB might not.
No might not about it, it won't. The BB30 is threaded, the press-fit, well, isn't.

You should be fine. 🙂
