I want to change the bearings on my bike with a BB30 setup.
Bearings are sorted but what tools do I need?
Are there kits that would this and other bike jobs like headsets etc?
I use this to extract the bearings from pf30 cups 30mm extractor
And one of these to help install the bearings, with a homemade threaded rod assembly Drift
Never had a bb30 frame but I can't see why these wouldn't work.
I got this
It has worked well on the the bikes I have with press fit BBs. Don't know if you could use it for headsets.
I bought a press and an extractor off ebay.
The press is just a bit of threaded rod with some turned spacers, one sits in the bearing being puled in, the other has a step that sits ont eh frame on the opposite side. Cost about £12.
The extractor is a cup that rests on the frame and a bit that pulls the bearing into it. Could be done with a hammer and a big socket, but for £9 it's nice to have a tool that won't leave you with a bearing jammed half in at a funny angle.
You also nee cir-clip pliers if your drift/puller needs access to the back of the bearings.
And some loctite bearing compound (641?) will keep it creak free. Same works on the splines of the cranks, just make sure they're spotless and de-greased first.
You can get all in one kits, but headset bearings are a different size to BB's so you don't really save any money versus just buying them ad-hock.
Thanks for the suggestions , keep them coming.
On the extraction side of things I have found this from Merlin.
Seems better than bashing away on a carbon frame with a humane and a drift.
