Morning chaps, I have a question about the BB on my Kaffenback, specifically the tool needed to remove it. The BB is listed in the spec as a SRAM GXP XR, but the tool I have for the GXP on my Sonder is too small - the cups are a lot bigger on the Kaff.

Does anyone have a suggestion for something that may fit? I'd be really grateful. Thanks very much.

Really not sure, but seeing as no-one else seems to know... it's not the same as the Shimano XT BBs that come with a plastic adapter that fits on normal BB tool is it? SRAM and Shimano sharing a standard... I know it seems unlikely, but...

Standard GXP is 44mm dia with 16 notches - same as old style Hollowtech 2 - wasn't aware that there are different size of GXP bearings. There are about 4 different sizes of 16-notch BB tools - new Shimano / old Shimano, GXP etc / RF / Rotor 30mm / Oversize 30mm - I know as I've got them all!

pretty sure that GXP and HT2 are same - I've used the same tool on both. Is this a socket style or the open ended type? It's possible that the tool is just a bit out of tolerance.. maybe?

Thanks for the replies, they're much appreciated. This is the BB in question...

The socket type tool I have for GXP BBs will go nowhere near it. I'm missing something obvious!

I've got two different ones for external BBs, if you are near Glentress/Innerleithen you are welcome to pop round and see if either fit.

Looks like that's a 30mm axle version to me.

That's not regular GXP - the body shape is wrong and the comparison in diameter to the BB shell. As previous poster said, it's probably some form of 30mm - there are 2 sizes of those so probably worth a trip to your LBS to find the right tool

How odd, I've never come across that.

Thanks very much everyone. I thought it was me being slightly dim. I guess the next port of call is Planet X, as this BB is the one fitted when it was bought last year.

It's possibly the SRAM DUB tool you need, as it's bigger than HT2/X-type - https://www.parktool.com/product/bottom-bracket-tool-bbt-79

Just spoken to Planet X - it a MegaEvo BB, not the GXP as I'd assumed. Need to find the tool now.

FSA, Unior, Park and probably some others do MegaEvo tools, there are sheet metal ones and socket types. I think the Unior one is cheapest and has a nice handle, Park sheet metal one gives you 2 tools in one as it has another BB tool on the other end. I prefer socket types for the workshop so I can torque them and they dont damage the finish.

Thanks guys, Unior tool now ordered. Not ideal for one job but I don't mind investing in tools because generally I'll use them again.
