Installed my new ceramic BB today and am a little confused.
When I was looking, I could have sworn I had 3 spacers installed. However when I installed new one with 3, it was way too wide. So I now have it with one spacer on drive side and none on off side.
I cant find any other spacers on the floor etc so I assume I was being insane and there wasn't actually 3 spacers but only one.
I guess my question is, is only one normal?
Bike is a 2011 Giant xtc2 29er.
Supposed to be on 68mm bb x2 on drive side and x1 on off side, then just x1 on drive side for 73mm but..... If I can - I leave one off to get the cranks on more, I have know more than a few come off which i feel is because they are not on far enough!?
If yours are closing up to the bearing housings (nipped up with hand 'big' torrx -y thing) and are on so the outer clamp bolt is over /close to axle and cranks are clear of chain stays and are reasonably equal on each side - you are good to go.
On my 26ers....
68mm BB shell - 2 spacers drive side & 1 on non drive side
72mm BB shell - only 1 spacer drive side.
not sure if the above also works for 29ers.
All sounds like i'm OK then. Chain alignment is good, spins well in all gears etc.
think the XTC has a 73mm shell so one spacer on the drive side is correct
