Ok, DB 4130 v 853 or similar....
Apart from slight weight saving of 853 for same strength, I reckon that if you are running suspension forks then a couple of psi difference in tyres (or tyre size itself) would have greater impact on 'feel' than the steel itself.
Oh, and the actual tubing diamater, butting and placement of said tube variance within the frame itself.
I'm trying to get away from being sucked into marketing BS to save some cash....
if you are trying to save some cash, buy the cheaper one.
'feel' is marketing BS, you wont feel any difference if you only buy one.
Not all 853 frames or 4130 frames are the same (i.e. you are right tabout angles and OD etc) and no doubt there are some 4130 frames that feel the same as some 853 frames.
But choose well and you should definitely be able to tell the difference.
Whether it's worth paying for...
You'll only feel a difference if you try the more expensive one and then buy the cheaper.
My Inbred and 456 don't feel as 'sprung' as my more expensive steel frame but until I got the expensive one I was happy with them.
Revel in your ignorance and stick with cheap.
My DB kona lavadome from early 1990s doesn't have the same "zing" as my 2004 Soul. Frame feels more "dead", though geometry means it rides really well.
