Working in Barnsley tomorrow and considering throwing my bike in the car. Travelling back to Manchester after work so looking for somewhere for a shortish route on the way home. Considering this Cut Gate MBR route -

Any good or any other suggestions?

Wharncliffe / Greno isn't far. But Cut Gate is worth doing (or was some years ago last I did)

The Cut Gate route from Langsett will be good and not far from your route home. Should also be fairly dry. Wharncliffe and Greno is a bit different, more DH orientated. Some good stuff in Wharncliffe but most is hard to find.

A few pics to wet your appetite

For a midsummer evening you'd struggle to find a better ride than cut gate and it is obvious, wharncliffe good but could spend a lot of time lost, greno if only got less than an hour Yes I know people love it

Edit if pushed on time halt the cutgate ride at the top
