Near Netheravon. Apparently aimed at motorbikes, but could just as well take out a bike.

Aren't the RoW around there open with good visibility?  I sometimes used to park there and go in past the farm.

Oh, just realised where it could be.

It was brought home to me last night how real a problem this is.

We were out riding the Macc Forest DH Trails and Mountain Rescue were at the half-way point, where the tracks cross the bridleway, doing an exercise to replicate someone riding into neck-height rope. They had a length of washing line tied around a tree.

For them to carry out a rehearsal shows that it's a real problem and they expect to be dealing with a serious issue sooner rather than later - unfortunately I have no idea what the answer is, why can't people just share nicely?

Unless users start talking to each other then we're none the wiser.  My immediate thought was that a DH track shouldn't be crossing a bridleway but, then again, I don't know the area so could be talking nonsense.  Is that owned by the Forestry Commission?

Proutster, CG - Its not a bridleway. I guess the best description would be a safe push up path for the DH'ers, although it is rideable.

Not heard of any rope issues round the forest and would like to think it'll stay like that.

Carlos

Edit - Forest is owned by United Utilities but is managed, by who, I'm not sure

Ah, so it is an "official" track then Carlos.  There's plenty of reports of stickmen on here but using rope is downright stupid.

If you use official as a loose term. I think it's more a "tolerated" situation. There are some decent descents that are, if you like, permitted. However, there are also a lot of other tracks that people have built and these are quite contentious as they conflict with other user groups and cross footpaths. There is also the Deer in the forest to take into account.

Since the forest has been closed due to the previous storm/high winds, quite a few new tracks have popped up apparently, and a few tolerated tracks are trashed.

we get stick man now and again, but also trees felled along track purposely by either UU or the forest management

These are the “official” DH tracks that have been approved for years by UU.

"Unofficial deterrents" is quite the euphemism for a lethal trap, isn't it?

Yeah the headline is laughable almost!

Just clicked and looked at the picture of the wire.

To take the time and have the mentality to do that is really genuinely scary.

That's designed to main at "best", or to outright kill.

OT - But I thought the DH track at Macc was closed due to the damage, same with the path that crosses it? I’ve been cycling up to Tegg’s Nose and the back way to Charity Lane to avoid using some of the bridleways that United Utilities have asked people not to use whilst damage is repaired.
