Our daughter is getting her hands on a second hand Islabike luath 26 in a week or so but we might need to replace the bar tape on it. I know nothing of this type of thing so I'm looking for some advice, are there any makes worth avoiding? or is tape just tape?
Small hands = thinner tape.
Thicker is more cushioning but makes the bars too thick for small hands.
Something reasonably cheap in black I’d say.
Anything from a decent brand, £10 should do it.
As above probably no need for thicker tape but I don't think there's "thin" tape, just normal.
Cheers for the replies! I'll show my lack of any kind of knowledge about this and ask whats a decent brand when it comes to bar tape?
you basically have:
plain foam tape £
foam tape with a silicone strip backing ££
PU tape like lizard skins DSP £££
various fancy perforated options and materials.
I'd just get some plain tape and treat it as consumable. I've used Deda, Easton, Prologo, Bontrager and shop own brands. Bontrager with the gel backing is my favourite and it has nice colour options. At the cheaper end Deda also has tons of fancy colours. It's a kids bike so have fun, don't stick to black because of the rules 🙂
If you don’t teach them the rules who will?
😜
Lizard skin DSP, search around and you can get some bargains as version 2 is out. Comes in a variety of colours and thicknesses
Cheers again for the replies! I actually ordered the DSP in black as shes one for whether the colour goes with the bike or not so wanted bog standard black :/ got it for 13 or 14 quid so will see how it turns out 🙂
