Okay wanting to build a 1x10 monstercross/touring bike.

Thinking 38t ring with 10 speed 11-36 cassette

Will Dura Ace 10spd shifters work with a 10spd shimano mtb mech?

Don't think it will, think you need a 9 speed mtb mech, but then that won't work with a 36t cassette, I think!!

So answering my own questions.....is Sram the only way to do this? hope not!

Presumably you can hide the cable run underneath the bar tape on either?

Get a Dia-compe non-indexed shifter ... it'll work with any gearing combination.

I've got a 9sp xtr mech on an ultegra 10sp flatbar shifter that definitely runs up to 36 teeth (it wouldn't go much higher but it definitely gets onto and off the 36)

Theres an article on the Singular site explaining what can and can't be used. From that I'd say you can do what your asking but have a read for yourself.

Any chance of a link to the singular article I've had a quick look but can't see it?

9sp xt med cage rear mech on 11/36 works fine with 105 10sp sti shifters - I wouldn't bother with the bar end shifters - the sti set up is great off road, how my gryphon is set up.
