Anyone know how I can loosen the bar end shifter on this side? The other side came off fine, and I was able to turn clockwise on the locknut so that it loosened off the handelbar. This left hand bar shifter will not budge at all. Any ideas?

Can you feel whether the expander is turning inside the bar or has the screw simply cross-threaded and is just turning? If the latter, trying to drill-out the screw might be best, but that might start spinning too? Is there any way you can get a screwdriver blade between the shifter housing and the end of the bar and pry it out?

Success! Managed to pry it out, replaced my handlebar, BUT now when I try to put it back into the bar end the mechnanism on the shifter bunches up and won't go in at all. TYIA.

I definitely need to loosen the screw inside the shifter so i can put it back on. Will ask at my local bike shop.

They can be a bit of a faff. Assuming the bolt loosens and tightens okay but it still bunches up, try a wrap of electrical tape around it.

Okay managed to get it back on, I loosened the shifter from the other end with a pair of pliers, now I need to find a way of tightening up the screw using the normal hex key method. I will go to a bike shop to get their opinion. Never let me near a bike. It takes me hours and I invariably screw up.

Got this sorted in the end, I had the wrong size hex allen key. Borrowed another set and it worked so easily. Quite like the design of these very simple indeed.
