Hi

I got myself a few ‘essential’ Christmas presents for my full suss bike, a fancy carbon bar and new dropper. 100% essential. Maybe.

I have a Hope 35 carbon bar & DMR Defy stem. The DMR stem can be used on another bike, (so not an issue if I can not use it on my full suss), but are there any special tips/rules to installing a carbon bar? I have the carbon paste stuff and know you have to follow torque specs, but presume no specific issues with type of stem/bar? Also, any issue with putting DMR deathgrips on carbon bars - they have a tapered plastic sleeve which means the grips need to be tapped into place (to be sure they are fully on the bar).

For a dropper install, is there any reason not to use the cable outer that is already in the bike (to avoid rerouting cables internally). I can not get too excited about faffing with following an outer cable through the inside of the bike frame.

I think you're ahead of most people there - use the paste, don't over torque, and use same for brakes/shifters, and you're good, maybe pay close attention to keeping an even gap on stem bolts

I have three sets of carbon bars, all have been run with deathgrips and no issues, the sleeve isn't crazy tight.

Only reason to change the outer for the dropper is if its damaged or too short.

Thanks for the input. I’ve never had any carbon bars so wasn’t sure. That is really helpful.

I will also try and re-use the cable outer on the dropper - will make me install the new dropper quicker.

Running a dropper cable is not too difficult at all if theres on in there already.

Leave the old inner in place, slide the outer off it. Slide the new outer down the old inner. Then change to the new inner!
