I've got a 2013 lapierre spicy... I've changed every single item to what I consider to be the best... Pikes/debonair shox Mavic crossmax sx wheels etc.
I really like the bike but I just fancy a change.
Because I've got all the bits I want I just want a frame change.
I like the look of the banshee rune and don't see many about any riders opinions???
I also like you can change from 26/27.5 in case I start to swop bits.
Thanks
Not a Rune But Spitfire. It's mint - both in colour and as a bike.
I did the same - frame only (well, rear axle for the hub and lower headset cup) and run 26" wheels in 27.5" drop outs and Pikes.
If you have the right size shock already, you'll save a few hundred buying without the CCDB
Almost went for the Rune, but sensible head took over, as did the wallet.
i was loooking at the rune but went for the first one i could see and hold in the flesh . #still26 saracen 16x
cant say what i would have got if i had both to choose from in the flesh
I bought frame and shock in Oct last year. Initially setup as 26, but 27.5 not long after. It's fairly heavy, 1 lb more than my heckler. But it pedals far better, that is accelerating and up long climbs. It's still no whippet though, so flatter trails can be tough, but no concern unless racing. Going down is amazing, I can get away with far more bad balance than my old bike. The slack adjustable angles help immensely. It also has a longish wheelbase, so nice and stable in air. Mine is Fox float x with vorsprung corset as standard, the Fox isn't supply enough.
Was thinking about Spitfire, but decided on rune as I'd like to be over bikes than under for alps and enduro
jedi I see the 16x at a mad £700, did that help sway your decision? 🙂
In a way, a frame with some solid weight to it inspires a bit of confidence. Some brands put so much R&D into making things as light as they think they can getaway. Some of these frames seem to be the ones that you see mates complaining about cracking, warranty issues and so on. Saying that, I do like the thought of getting the bike weight down from my current older gen giant reign x. I am looking into spitfire/rune, rallon and bird aeris. Of those, the Rallon is the most expensive and the lightest but definitely the best looking!
No. The tt of the small x16 is slightly shorter than bottlerocket and the seat tube is lower. I now run 50mm stem instead of 30mm and it's perfect
I can't offer any direct input as I haven't been on the Rune, but I tested Spitfire and Prime at a demo day.
Everyone that tried the Rune enjoyed it, and I got the impression it feels quite similar to the Spitfire.
I really enjoyed the Spitfire, climbed very efficiently and felt like a fun and capable bike. The only thing that stopped me buying was that I think a Phantom may be better suited to my riding.
The Prime had been made slacker and it climbed like a dog but felt good when pointed down the hill.
Thanks guys. I've messaged someone with a frame for sale.
