Booked a week in a little cottage near Gardenstown at the end of september which to be honest I can't wait for.

apart from the Monster trails is there good biking or am I best taking the gravel bike. I could take both but I dont think theres storage so 2 is a bit harder though not impossible.

was thinking of a night out on the gravel bike as well. any top locations for a spot of quiet roads/farm tracks with either a campsite or a good Wildcamp spot?

Its not an area I know, I tend to go west cost or north east like helmsdale, however COVID and NC500 Tax is strong and everything was booked or fortunes.

cheers

For MTB check this:

I'd also recommend Pitfichie, Scolty and Bennachie in Aberdeenshire (worth checking out the Trail Forks app, or just a general Google).

Not sure about Banff area though I'm afraid.

The Bin Hill near Spey Bay is short but good fun if you are in the area, they are on TF. Ben Rinnes is not far away either and can be ridden in a nice loop - see OS map or WalkHighlands for the route.

Lots of really quiet back roads and forest tracks to explore - gravel bike would be OK for that. Bulk of Monster Trails are gravel fine too (bar the Gully Monstre probably, even then would be do-able, if overgrown I think). Depends how far you want to travel and what sort of riding you're into.

Likes of edge of Cairngorms around Tomintoul / Braemar are gravel OK as well as long as you don't venture too far in. But that's quite far away really.

dont mind a bit of driving, i am with the missus so might get a couple of big days in, dont like to take the proverbial though.

I just like riding my bike, not bothered what it is, not a big jumper though but happy on most stuff

Some obscure bike magazine did an article on a ride in Aberdeenshire (Bennachie) a couple of issues ago (issue 130 of SingleTrack).

Other than that - tons to choose from to cater for every taste. I'm not that sure about gravel options but happy to show you some of the quality mountain biking around Bennachie area (Inverurie way) if you have a few hours to spare.
