Recommend me a bar with more than average back sweep at the grip end that aren't full on alt/shopper bars as it's for the XC hardtail. Current slight rise, slight backsweep bontrager bars seem to put my wrists in an unnatural position when just cruising.

On-one Mary? Has the backsweep you’re looking for, but maybe too much rise. I used them for several years and found them really comfortable.

Stooge Moro Bars.

17 degree backsweep, 800mm wide, 38mm rise, no upsweep.

The Thomson titanium bars come in a 12 degree backsweep that makes quite a comfort difference.

I would like to have sq labs but I found Ergotec provide similar backsweep for less £(but they're not light) if you can find them (mine were from Rose before they stopped shipping to the UK).

Stooge Moto bars - just enough to help hugely with my knackered wrists, without being too much.

Salsa Rustler bar, got them on the 29+ singlespeed and they’re very comfortable indeed.

SQ lab 16 degree is spot on for me. Even the aluminium MTB ones are crazy expensive....

But if not for MTB, they do a 16 deg one for gravel /  hybrids that have a forward s bend (to avoid long stem), 680 wide, under 300g and Ghyllside got some to me in a week for £46 plus a few quid post. SQ 310 I think it is. That width is a good compromise of control for tame off road but not quite so awful for aero on-road stuff like a wide bar.

I have Kyote on my commuter/long distance bike and SQLab 12 deg on my trail bike. Kyote are a bit weird on singletrack, not great for jumps and sprinting etc.

Tried those, absolutely hated them, so also got a set to sell.

The ritchey 10d look interesting with the 10° sweep

What's people's definition of an Alt bar if it doesn't include Kyote's and Mary's?!

For 10-20 deg sweep:

Soma Odin

Salsa Bend 17

Stooge Moto

Planet X/Fairweather Bullmoose thing

On One Fleegle if you can track some down

Check this out if you haven't

I've been thinking of getting some Salsa Bend for my rigid MTB, as they have 17 or 23 degree back sweep and come in 710 or 740.

https://www.bikemonger.co.uk/salsa-bend-deluxe-2031-p.asp

Salsa Rustler look good though as well or the Salt for no rise.

Too narrow

Yes. I used these for many years after they first came out, but recently putting an old set out of the spares box on the commuter they felt very narrow. I'd be going OG v2 in that vein but, as above, when is an alt bar not an alt bar?

From what I read, too much backsweep can be an issue on bikes that are ridden both standing up and sitting down. If it's right for one position it might be wrong in the other, and a compromise might not be good in either.
