I have a Dakine rucksack with a slot for a U-lock in the bottom of it such that I can get the lock in and out without taking it off. It's a brilliant feature. However it is now very old and doesn't even attempt to keep water out. My Google-Fu is failing and I can't find anything similar any more. Anyone got any suggestions?
(I could of course just stop forgetting to carry a rain-cover with me)
I thought this was an interesting question, but no answers so far.
I had a similar rucksack many years ago, and was annoyed when it fell apart. A friend told me I had to get over myself and simply hook the u-lock through one of the arm straps. I’ve been doing that ever since.
It’s kind of uncomfortable at first, but you should be able to find a way to position it where it doesn’t get in your way.
I know this doesn’t answer your question, but it would mean you could choose from a much wider range of bags.
Surprisingly I couldn't find anything either. Could you use a lockblock to attach the lock to a strap on the bag perhaps?

my Thule pack and pedal commuter rucksack has a pocket for a lock
+1 for the Thule commuter bag, I've lived in mine for 4 years now, it looks almost new.
The Thule looks nice. Are you able to get the lock in without taking it off? I'm not sure I'm that flexible any more 🙂
I've just checked and my Dakine was a '<span class="il">Dakine</span> Dispatch 2010' that I ordered back in Feb 2011. 8 years is pretty good really for daily abuse
I also have the Thule and actually started a thread about it which ends with a mini review

In short, you have to take the bag off to get the lock out but have a separate pocket is really useful and taking it off is not much of a faff.
Would I spend £130 on it again, possibly not. It's not as comfortable as I was expecting and the bottle holder at the side is broken on mine so I'll soon be testing the Thule warranty. I has some great features and I like it, just not sure it's worth the money
