I've got a small bag to use for regular riding where I don't want to carry much, i.e. an Osprey Viper 7, but this has no rain cover and I can't see an optional cover from Osprey that goes that small. The XS are 10 litres, the Viper 7 is just under 7 litres. Or maybe that doesn't matter and the XS will be an okay fit on smaller bags?

Any suitable third party options? Just want something to cover it for mud days. Not fussed about it actually getting wet, just something to reduce the need to wash the whole bag.

Do you really wash a backpack?

I find that the mud just drys and falls off mine. At worst I might just brush it off with my hand, after all it will only get dirty again next time.

Well, rarely 😀 . I've just washed this one first time in a couple of years as after brushing it off it was still thick coated in mud.

But I do carry stuff on the outside under the straps, like spare tube and anything there gets coated in mud. Though I guess if I need to use the tube it doesn't matter. I'm tubeless anyway and carry the spare as a just in case. I keep thinking of not bothering to cut down on stuff I carry even more, but that'll be the time I get a big slice and need a tube. Though usually tubes I carry get donated to someone else on the ride.

I wouldn't normally put a cover on, it's just when it gets stupidly muddy as it has recently. Alternative is I switch to my big camelbak which has a cover, but that's stupidly big (HAWG). I mainly use that for big trips and carrying loads of stuff.
