You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I've seen a few recovery from surgery type threads on here - bit not one relating to what I've had done.
Has anyone had keyhole surgery to repair / reattach the labrum in their shoulder back to the joint?
If so how long was bit before you were back biking at all (road bike / flat route pootling), and then proper mountain biking?
I'm about 4 weeks post op and using my road bike on a turbo - but can't wait to get back off road and some uplift days.
Will watch this with interest !
6 weeks post op here. Same procedure with 4 anchors used.
I did as my surgeon suggested for first 5 weeks - 4 weeks in sling strapped tight around waist so I couldn't lift arm away from body. Out of sling after 4 weeks and allowed to move arm to 90 degrees only, no rotation at all. 5th week had follow up appointment, Surgeon was impressed with how things are going and said OK to use the road bike, but no MTB'ing.
After 8 weeks I will be able to move arm as normal but no resistance. 12 weeks I can start low weights 5kg, increased by 5kg per month after.
6 months before I can MTB. Looking online, this all seems overkill to me but sticking with it for now.
My shoulder is pretty weak and painful at the moment so really not contemplating MTB'ing, though have a feeling (hope) that come 3 months i will be out, building it up slowly.
3 months, snowboarding after 6, Transrockies after 9 months
Ah - I only had 1 anchor so your shoulder must have been more damaged.
Saw a physio today who said I'm making good progress so far. I've been out the sling during the day less and less since the end of week 2 per surgeons opinion.
I've got the OK to use the turbo but not a bike out in the road yet - apparently I shouldn't put too much weight on it yet.
Just curious to see what other people have managed. Hoping to be back on the mtb around Jan time then I guess. Ages!
