Been suffering with some pain in the lower back for about 2 weeks now...started after coming back from a weekend in Morziene, had a couple of offs and minor crashes but nothing too serious.
Anyway, just wondering if it's worth a trip to the docs or just taking painkillers until it subsides...
And it's worse in the morning...just a dull ache rather than twinges..
Any advice???
Can i be the first to say MTFU 😆
If its muscle ache you could try an osteopath
Low pain threshold.. 😀
+1 for an Osteopath, quick crunch and you're all sorted....usually
Personally I would apply the adage that pain is Gods way of telling you that somethings up. I've suffered from MTFU most of my adult life on this subject. It now transpires that I've got a stenosis, which is basically a disc encroaching into nerve channels and effectively beginning to progressivly paralyse my lower limbs as a result. Currently warding it off with physiotherapy, but ultimately its going to mean fusing two vertabrae together with all that that entails.
Had I taken my own advice good focussed physio could and would have dealt with the problem on a permanent basis done early enough.
Regretably few people take "back problems" seriously, and that includes the medics. It actually took me 3 trips to my GP before I finally got an MRI scan and the problem fully amnd properly identified, and thats after 30 years of MTFU'ing and other mechanisms for keeping the pain at bay.
Just remember if it keeps happening or won't go away there is a reason which no quack remedy will spot or be able to sort out for you whatever they claim.
monkeyfit - bruising from a fall or muscle pain ? Back muscles are super strong and they can "lock". I would say doing nothing except MTFU and/or taking pain killers is a bad plan.
You might try going to the physio and/or a sports massage (they will ask you about back pain be honest). Personally I'd try that before the osteo btw (I've used all three of these)
I suffer from back pain and have some good excersizes the physio game me which really help. Next year before your trip make sure you do some specific back excersizes, sit-ups help too.
If its bad enough to require painkillers then you should seek professional advice. Or you could take codeine for a year like I have, no laughing matter. I use gas to get that effect 😉
Back pain is often a viscous circle of spasming muscles.
When I had piriformis syndrome I used these thermacare heat wraps which are excellent - way better than any pain relief.
[they got me through having to stand in a confined space for 5 hours on a Lancaster to London virgin train with no problem].
they will help the muscles relax.
try some of the piriformis syndrome stretches you can see on youtube, like:
and others linked to.
Another that helps me is to bend over to touch your toes but keep your lower back straight, which stretches the gluts.
If you need further treatment at least you will know whether those stretches make any difference to the pain, which might help someone diagnose it.
Back pain due to injury - Osteopath (not chiropractor, in my experience they are just after your money)
Long term back pain - Stretching, probably your hips and upper back, and strengthening your lower back, massage and foam rolling will also help.
There's loads of advice on the long term stuff on the James Wilson website. www.bikejames.com
Did you land hard on your backside at any point ?
