Does anyone make real leather MTB shoes in the same way that 5:10 used to?
I have a pair of micro fibre impacts which just seem a bit crap ... and look terrible.

Or is microfibre just the modern world ?

I used to have the old Sam Hill impacts and they were the most comfortable shoe I've ever had, but the best thing was the removable insoles to aid drying. Why they stopped that I have no idea?

I have Freerider Pros and the insoles come out like any other shoe. They are also not made of microfibre, and I don't know of any Five10 shoes that are?

This. I have no fond memories of my old 510s once they did their first wet spell. Bloody awful things.

Am still crying that Sombrio dropped Shazam mids. They were the bar.

Dunno, I've got some new Freeriders, they're horrible thin things compared to the originals, I've got a second insole in them to try and provide some cushioning! But that doesn't stop all the seams in the upper from rubbing.

My Shimano flat shoes on the other hand are great! Probably synthetic leather, but they keep splashes out, have a decent insole and fit well.

So Shimano.

Have they changed the soles as well ? I have a 5 month old pair of freeride pro's that are trashed. However the uppers apart from being dirty are as new. I used to get a year to 18 months out of the freeriders going back 3 or 4 years.

My five tens are great shoes, impact vxi, brilliant.

Dry out in jig time too, no cardboard or sponge like five tens of old.

I'm thinking you've got rose tinted spectacles...

I noticed recently how much longer my five tens seem to last now compared to the earlier shoes. Let's be honest these shoes take a beating and I'm sure they hold up to it better now and I do more riding than when the first shots came out.... Just my experience though

They were a lot cheaper back then but this just reminds me of my grandma complaining how much a cup of tea costs nowadays so I think I'm just getting old!

I have some of the comedy 5 10’s that are waterproof apart from the tongue. You know, the place where all the water comes in. Genius design. Other than that though they’ve lasted really well.

Freeride EPS.  Got some for winter as Pros are not very water resistant and very impressed so far.  Leather too.

Still have a pair of these

No idea how to post a pic of my dirty but damage free ones.
Also have a pair of grey/blue things that are at least six years old.

Son always has them but his feet growing rapidly means wear/quality is hard to measure.

I can't look past Shimano AM 41's even though getting them now is difficult, if you wait long enough they pop up on ebay every now & again. I bought some 5 10 impact vxi's & thought meh! Buggers for hot spots after an hour + & amazing for collecting wee stones in them while riding along.

Aye, if they discontinue the old-style freerider I'll probably pick up a couple of pairs, love mine. Just wish they had a wee bit more toe protection, on account of that one time I broke my toe.

I think Sam Hill refusing to wear his own signature Impact Pro VXI says a lot about more recent efforts.

Ion do some leather ones, the Raid Select. A fun mix of cow and pig skin. I only remember because I described them as a meat feast. https://singletrackmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/2-new-brands-in-the-flat-pedal-market-ion-and-northwave-enter-the-arena/

My "best" riding shoes are a pair of SAm Hill 2s the Black/white/green ones with the full white toe bit not the split version. Most comfortable shoes I've got but they don't see rain (or even damp) and as with all Impact based shoes suffer from the tiny stones problem as vongassit mentions but I love them.

Yeah that cardboard last! What were they thinking (apart from cheap and buyers probably won’t notice). A bit of British weather and the sole turns into a flip flop.

I like the Sam Hill Impacts (the original design looking ones) not a restyled “pro” version.
Pretty water resistant too. Dry fast

https://www.adidas.co.uk/five-ten-impact-sam-hill-mountain-bike-shoes/BC0735.html?cm_mmc=AdieSEM_Google-_-adidas-DSA-RLSA-_-Shoes-_-DYNAMIC%20SEARCH%20ADS&cm_mmca1=UK&cm_mmca2=b&ds_kid=39700047206113859&gclid=CjwKCAjwqJ_1BRBZEiwAv73uwNA8by_oanSi96A9VB7VeXmhxURO0zwmZuqBS1E47kJ-ETfBwD8_7RoC54oQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

I’d say they are a massive improvement On the original cardboard insole water logging Impacts - and for me they beat the newer styles, if only because I have square looking shovel like feet and those are wide. The later 510s under Adidas seem quite narrow to me.
Just my thoughts.

Just christened a new pair of Freeriders, they are still great for dry weather riding IMO. That bit of extra flexibility and the superb grip has been reassuring riding in the current situation.

Maybe they don't last like they used to, but I think that's 'cos I'm riding with more aggressive pins in my pedals now.
