In their policy documents they state that any bike bag larger than 190x75x65 will need to be shipped as cargo.
So I assume I can't fly with my Evoc bag which is 130x85x35 to Geneva?
I flew with my evoc bag to Morocco earlier this year. Issue was weight not size.
Never had a problem flying to Vancouver (or anywhere) with my evoc
Yeah, I’ve seen that before, although worrying, I’ve never had a problem taking a bike bag a little bigger than that.
I had no problem flying BA to Barcelona with my Evoc bike bag in terms of size, however they did weigh it and it was slightly over the 32kg allowance and max handling limit. I had put a fair few extra bits in with the bike(spares, tools, etc) and had to move some into my case.
Also be aware that you are supposed to notify BA that you are taking the bike as part of your luggage at least 72 hours before departure.
bike bag was fine to Malaga. Weight was borderline being charged.
i flew to Stockholm last weekend with bike, they were fine as long as under weight limit, i didn't book bike on ahead or anything, same with Turin and Nice last year, just bowled up...
I've flown BA from Heathrow to Bilbao, Geneva and Vancouver with an Evoc bag and have never had any problems with the size. I was once told at Bilbao that I should notify about the bike in advance but it seems to be an ignored policy. Also, it might just have been luck so far but at Heathrow the check in staff tend to check the bike bag in without weighing it (the bag doesn't fit on the scale at the desk) then send you to the oversize baggage area. The oversize baggage staff don't seem to enforce the overweight charge, they just put a sticker on saying that it's heavy.
Last time I flew Heathrow to Bilbao I was with BA and apart from a squeaky bum moment when they decided they had too many bikes on the flight and thankfully started looking at who had actually told them their hold luggage was a bike bag before deciding whose bike wasn’t flying, it was fine. That was an old Planet X bag, and it didn’t even get weighed for some reason (in either direction) which was a bit of a slap in the face after obsessing about bag weight while packing.
I think their max. dimensions have increased recently. When I flew with BA a few years ago I remember strapping my bike bag up so it was a bit shorter (just excess space at the top of the bag), but I checked the max. dimensions when I flew with them a few weeks ago and they were bigger than my bag (same bag). Perhaps the document you've seen still has the old ones?
But yes, they ask you to notify them now, so probably best to do that to avoid problems.
03444930787 just been notifying them of a trip we’re taking with bikes in July . Very painless, the lady in the call centre said she’d just put the maximum dimensions from their system down for the bag and reminded me of the 32 kg weight limit.
