I've just built my nearly 2 year old's Xmas balance bike up. Two questions:

1) what's with the quick release handlebar clamp? Seems to be positioned just where he'd want to muck about and open it, and when you open it it goes with a fair old spring. Any tips? I've had to properly spanner it up tight too.

2) brake on or brake off?

I don't reckon he'll ride it until summer but still would like to get it right for his Xmas present.

1) tightened ours up, hasn't been a problem
2) we left the brake on, mainly because there are a few hills around here (even in the parks we take him in) plus his older brother doesn't seem to understand how to use the brake and I want him to learn earlier.

1, not an issue with ours, just did it up tight.

2, brake on, helped him get used to brakes and learn skids!

I used a good old tie wrap.

Although our one has had a fair bit of use, I should have bought another puky (well the next size up), the decathlon bike rolls on plastic bushes! Pure crap as it develops play in no time and rolls like s***e!
