The standard bar mounts are a bit of a pain because they need new zip ties each time they're removed. Has anyone made a better reusable one? Show me, please. 🙄

I thought the idea was you don't remove them. Just have a bar mount on each bike.
I've got a spare you can have 🙂

That's no good. I like to remove the bracket completely, and the zip tie slots are really narrow so only very thin ones slide through. Thanks for the offer though.

A plan is formulating in my head, I just wanted a bit of inspiration.

You could send Crud a stamp and they will send you some thin reusable zip ties - http://www.crudproducts.com/products/spares/roadracer
The ones for the Roadracer guards would be perfect.

For me the mounts are the only downside to my Ayups. I tend to just leave one mount on each of my main bikes but in an ideal world i'd rather take them off as i like my bars as uncluttered as possible. Having said that, it's only a couple of zip ties each time so not the end of the world. I occasionally look on the Ayup website to see if they have any new bar mounts out but no joy as yet. Have never seen any ghetto type solutions to the problem either.

I just leave the mount on all winter, twisting under the bar on day rides.
take it off for summer. Got two extra bar mounts and extra ties with the kit. I've still not used up the extra zipties that I got with the kit. I've had the kit 3 winters now. Maybe a bit different if you are swapping between bikes.
I did one see a pic where someone had cut the ends off the standard mount and bolted it to a cateye type QR mount.

I mount my AyUps under the bar. That protects them from crashes, and the bar looks uncluttered.

I zip tied an ay-up mount to two old lumicyle hologen mounts.

The lumi mounts are QR - so I can swap with ease between 3 of my bikes anyway

the Lumi mount does not fit oversize bars so I still need to do it the normal way on the other 2

DezB - Thanks for the offer but i've got a couple of mounts which is all i need for the 2 bikes i'd ever go night riding on.

Epicyclo - Hadn't thought about mounting them under the bar, might give it a whirl to see if it looks any better. Cheers.

Would a two-fish lock-block be suitable ?.

you can't get rid of those spare mounts can you DezB 🙂

a "two-fish lock-block" would hold the lamp at 45 degrees...

I ran out of the thin zip ties so at mo I've just got electrical tape wrapped round the mount - it's dark and nobody sees it. 🙂
