I just wanted to make sure no one has the unfortunate ordeal of dealing with this urchin
I sent the money by bank transfer as he said he didn't have a PayPal account as it was only £40 I proceeded (alarm bells should of gone off now) he said he'd send the rear shock.
After a fee days I asked for a tracking number which he said he'd email me when he got home but I heard nothing.
Then his wife was in labour so he hadn't sent it after leaving it a few days he said his mum was now in hospital and he'd not had chance to send it.
He then said he'd sent it but not tracked (yeah right) then after no shock we arranged a refund which didn't happen.
Please please avoid this seller

The number of these people who have sudden family medical emergencies is staggering. Both me and my wife have been fed similar lines before.

He might just be genuinely hopeless

You got a refund, which I doubt you'd have got if he was out to rip you off.

pinkbike buysell profile

Either he's ripped off alot of people or he eats through bikes.....
Id be tempted to small claims court him - it should cost anything when it's only for £40 iirc and it may scare the proverbial out of him when he gets a court summons through the post.

Also may not have the brains to use his twitter profile name as his pinkbike name?

That Pinkbike account stinks of stolen bikes. Lots of high end kit for sale, offers accepted for quick sales, etc. Mmmm, fishy!

I used to work in a record shop. I am not exaggerating here when I say I used to get 2 people a week saying they needed a refund without a receipt as the person they bought the item for had died. 2 a week - honestl!!

I didn't do hundreds of refunds either.

Definitely fishy. I was offered the same Merida one forty in his sales history as a swap for a bike I was selling last year. The photo was identical but it was from a different account in a similar location IIRC.

With detective work like that, you may not want to look at his tumblr account (NSFW)

Yeah - thought I'd better not post a link to that! Oh course they could be three unrelated people?
Pinkbike says Cheshire, twitter says Newbury.
Pinkbike account stinks of stolen bikes though, that many bikes forsale at the same time. Only thing that indicates real bikes is that most of them are photographs in the same garden.

Yes, report him on pinkbike for sure.

I have quite often paid by gift as I tend to think the best of people. I know,I know....

You only have to deal with one rotten apple though and it really throws your moral compass off.

As a rule though I have bought tonnes of second hand stuff from eBay and forums and it's always been ok. Lucky I guess.

Anyway OP, thanks for the heads up and sorry to hear of your bad experience. 🙁

Report him to the police for fraud. You have account details, and the bank will have contact details so they should have no problem tracking him down. At the very least the bank can freeze the account even if the contact info is false.

I do wonder sometimes if these people realise how small and close knit the world is these days and the fact that on a forum like this, there's likely to be someone pretty nearby prepared to go round for a chat.

Sadly the police may not do anything. But a crime is a crime, so it should get chased up.

I told him I'd spread his name as someone to avoid and he said I can do what I want so I am!!
I'm not going to the police they are useless plus he'd only say he sent it and it got lost in the post.
Had I seen a pic of him first I would of avoided the deal already had someone contact me who bought something off him in person just to find it didn't work when he got home!

I would still tell the police - as a crime it needs to be recorded even if they don't do anything.

Also it may get considered when he does get nicked later in life.

If you've not reported it to pinkbike, do! It's been a while but i was involved in a couple of fraud cases with them a couple fo years back and they were quick with the banhammer. Doesn't help you of course.

I had similar a few years back over some speakers. Tracked the guy down using the various internet trails he'd left (and a phone call to a chip shop on his road...) and gave the details to the police. They nicked him, he'd done it to others, and I got my money back £5 per week as part of the sentence.
So worth reporting to them at least.

Definetly can see his neighbours house(No.9) in the background of that picture.

He appears to be back online now over at Pinkbike.

If you don't report it to the police then they definitely won't do anything about it.

We had a guy caught in our force area, he did a couple of fraudulent sales as he was in debt and panicking, realised no one was doing anything about it so carried on. Think he ended up pleading guilty to something like 600 offences...

What's the betting that he's going back over his internet history attempting to delete everything that links him to the address and this thread?

It's a shame, he could have avoided all this by contacting the OP and attempting to make good. All for £40! Clearly, we're not dealing with a mastermind here.

How odd, all of the bikes and frames he's sold have been either S/M/L. Thats some growth spurt in only 1 year http://www.pinkbike.com/u/Callumj10/buysell/sold/

All that stuff in one year! How would you get a the police interested in checking some of those quite distinctive bikes against their stolen propery databases? Looks like they could solve a lot of outstanding crimes, (with apologies to CallumJ10 if he's a legit trader).

slightly of topic, but

always concerns me a bit, as I've got a large pile of bikes I'm no longer in love with that I really should be selling and don't want to get mistaken for a thief - even if it is almost all 26er stuff...
