I need to bleed my rear brake. I have a bleed kit (yes I know its pricey but it does come with some useful bits like the piston seperator blocks, the hose clamps and unscreable syringes)
Anyway, I have fresh dot 5.1. I can't seem to find whats in them from new? Dot 4 or 5.1 (they will take both)
What happens if you mix the two?
I'm under the impression that Dot 5.1 is best until you boil it at which point it becomes a lot worse than Dot 4 as a braking fluid?
Use the DOT 5.1 Three's are filled with DOT 4 from the factory.
No issues with mixing the two. You just get a performance level between the two. The bleadding procedure means you replace most of the old fluid so there' very little mixing.
Once either fluid boils they both perform equally terribly.
DOT 5.1 has a higher boiling point than DOT 4. This means the brake system can run at a higher temperature without loss of braking.
