Avid Elixir 5's.
Come to do the first pad change on these
Reset the pistons as best as possible with a ring spanner. No good. Brakes jammed on with new pads (which are genuine Avid so no thickness issues).
They have obviously self-adjusted as the old pads worn, but now will not go back, at all. I've no manual - am I missing an Avid-specific trick (Shimanos and hopes lways been fine).
I'm loathe to let fluid out as they actually came out the bag with a pretty decent, solid factory bleed (which is not too common).
Have also tried pumping them, leaving overnight with levers clamped etc etc, no good.
Have you tried resetting the pistons with the old pads in and a big screwdriver??
Less chance of damaging the pistons
snotrag - had a similar issue when I replaced the rear pads on my Elixir Carbons back in January. I couldn't get the new pads to fit in as the pistons had closed together over time as the previous pads wore away. I therefore prised the pistons back into the calipers, however even when all the way in the new pads still didn't fit. I therefore had to resort to filing down the new pads, thankfully this did the trick and they have been fine ever since. Pads rubbed slightly on the first ride or two but then no problems.
