I uave a pr of Avid Code R brqkes on my DH bike. They are about 8-9 yrs old. The levers and mc look like Elixirs. I have come to it today and both brake levers feel strange.
The front was just locked solid. The lever wouldnt move. The brake caliper was firmly on. I stripped the master cyl and it all seemed ok. It went back together fine, but i cant bleed them. There is no was i can push fluid from the caliper up to the mc, or down from the mc into the caliper.
What has happened? Is it the mc? Is it worth servicing it with a kit, or should i get a new mc?
Any help appreciated
Ian
When you say you've stripped the master cylinder, what do you mean? Have you had the lever blade off and pulled the innards out?
At a guess, they've done that thing a few SRAM brakes did where the plastic piston/plunger in the lever swells and jams everything up. It's an easy enough fix if that is the case - either get them out and sand them down a touch or get some new ones off ebay. (Pistons, not entire brakes!)
Of course, it could be something else entirely!
Its not like like the guides internally. Ive had it all apart and there is a rubber sleeve or bladder over the piston in the elixir, not just the two 'o' ring seals on the piston.
Ive replaced the pistons in guides before, but this is different..
