Had some Deore M535 brakes on the front of the kid's bike, which now need bleeding and new pads. As a shortcut I tried to put an old pair of Avid Elixir R Sls on instead, but basically the disk (160mm) hits the caliper well before the brake is screwed home onto the Post Mount Adapter. I was wondering if the mount adapter wasn't big enough, but then the disk is only 160mm and it worked fine with the Deores.
The other thing is that the SLXs that I replaced the Elixirs with on the missus' bike worked find without any problem. Most weird.
Do Deore and Avid use different size IS to Post Mount Adaptors? Do I need bigger adapter for a 160mm disc?
The Elixirs use CPS

I just swapped Avid to Shimano calipers sticking with 160mm discs...and ended up buying the Shimano adaptors. The rear Avid adaptor was tolerable - meant the pad was sitting 1mm too high for the rotor which I was prepared to accept. The front however I couldn't even get the Shimano caliper to sit in the adaptor - I considered filing (!) a bit off but concluded brakes are not the place for such efforts. If the adaptors had been for 180mm it might have worked.
I happen to have a pair of Avid adaptors sat in my garage if you interested? Could send photos of them.
ey up Mr Connolly, that looks like it may indeed be the case. Many thanks indeed. Any idea how thick the washer need to be?
