As above, what options are there for Avalanche suspension in the UK nowadays?
Looking to go AC3 coil conversion or drop an Avalanche damper in some 36's.
Ta 👍
Used to be Jtech, not sure now though.
Deal direct and take the import costs on the chin.
Wondered this, probably easier to buy some forks in the States, ship them to Craig then have them shipped to here...
Possibly, but the shipping to the US is probably the smallest part of the puzzle.
I'm looking for a Float X 200x57 for the same reason.
The hybrid cartridge is easy enough to fit a bleed/charge with oil. Smaller and lighter than a whole fork.
AC3 is PUSH. Avy damper drops straight in with no fuss. If you can do a lowers service it shouldn’t be an issue
I used to deal with Craig directly during my Avalanche equipped Brooklyn Machine Works Racelink days and apart from the odd import duty charge was fine. Awesome forks BITD
Aye, one or the other.
Let's face it, going to be worth the cost in the end, I'll fire off an email to Craig and get the ball rolling...
Sorry, mis-read the original post. Both conversions are a piece of piss to do (although I favoured Vorsprung over PUSH for a couple of reasons). They are also going to do different things to your fork, so worth having a think about whether its the spring or the damper you really want to look at. If you can do both then you are really laughing!
Did wonder about that and how to justify or just **** it and it see...
Yeah they stopped a couple of years ago now unfortunately. At least with the damper it's an open bath system so shouldn't really ever need touched, but lack of support over here does make me reluctant to get an Avy tuned shocked off done
Yeah, the thing that put me off was basically not being able to realistically send it back and go "I don't like the tune, make it more like this". IMO with a really high end damper/suspension what you're paying for is that expertise and support as much as the parts themselves.
I know they use a different piston in a rear shock upgrade, but surely the oil, shims and wearing parts would all still be available to any UK suspension tech.
Might be, but there might also be wee proprietary parts in there too (this is the mtb industry after all). So it's more a case of whether a UK shop can be arsed when there are 1,000s of normal shocks out there that they don't even have to think about (whereas they might be gambling with oil weights, volumes, charge pressures, torque figures, etc if Avy dont want to share the info with them)
I've had avalanche stuff before. Two fork dampers and one tuned fox shock. All were great.
I'm currently looking to do both ends of my bike. I'd have no qualms about asking Craig about the oil weight and if there's any off sized wear parts. I get the impression he's more interested in the tuning than the basic service so I don't imagine there would be any protectionism.
I know avy custom machine parts but it would be interesting to see if there were any custom wear parts. To my mind, it wouldn't make sense for such a small operation.
Bought some Lyriks and went full Push in the end; coil and HC97 cart.
Then moved to Bristol so yet to find out how good they really are yet...
