So is it a good area for biking.
Currently visiting family out in oz, southernhighlands. Got to admit it seems a brilliant place to live, but what about the biking?
Access laws seems limited, I.e. Not allowed.
As someone who lives on the edge of the peaks and regularly heads to Scotland would I be disappointed?
Surely a place so large must have good riding?

Southern highlands is a few hours from the snowy mountains. I believe there is bike park chairlift style riding around Thredbo during the summer. There was a dh world champs in Canberra a few years back as well which should be a couple of hours from there

Canberra has lots of really great riding, one of the best places in the World IMO.

That sounds interesting, we are staying about 2 hours north of Canberra, near Bowral.
Is it all man made stuff, or just a case of finding routes/singletrack?

You are close to Wingello as well - nice trails there. Some of it is waymarked, but not in the same way that British trails are. On the coast, Nowra is nice and has some riding.

Canberra is a mix of manmade (like Stromlo) and more natural stuff like Majura and Bruce ridge.

NSW is pretty big, you can probably fit the UK in it. There is plenty of good riding, but its spread out. Check out Tartha its awesome, ride in the morning and chill on the beach in the afternoon.

I live in Canberra, ACT, moved from Worcestershire in 2014.

Riding here is pretty good, but is very XC based, seems the trail builders are scared of jumps and other features, except for at Stromlo.

Check out theberm.com.au and have a look at Kowen, Sparrow Hill, Stromlo, Bruce Ridge, Majura and even Tuggeranong Pines for a bit of freeride fun.

Went through berry the other day, we were staying in Kiama for a few days, and went to nowra.
I am hoping to have a ride round wingello.
So sounds like you have to drive around a bit for different trails.
