I want to start streaming Spotify through my audio system and wondered what the cheapest/best way of doing it is.

I have an iPod (classic) so can't use that, I would prefer not to have to fire up my laptop every time. The wi fi card on my phone is fried so that won't work.

I thought about buying something like an iPod touch 8GB as that would probably do it but short of that.....

Any device would need an internet connection, either hard wired or via WiFi. Do iPods have this?

An iPad or similar would be perfect for it. Simply get a cable to split the headphone out into left and right channels and use the Aux input into your HiFi.

I've got one of those amps, they're not too bad. Nice retro finish.

I understand that iPods have wifi connectivity.

I like the Yamaha, great tone, well it sounds really nice in the space I have.

secondhand gen 1 ipod touch and a Cambridge Audio iD10 dock is probably the cheapest way to get decent sound out if you're not expecting to stream from a device to your stereo ie the connection between the amp and music player can be hardwired.
Android devices don't tend to have a line out - you need to use the headphone socket, and frankly give out a dreadful noise.

If you're streaming at 160kps is it really worth getting a dock given quality of the sound from the source?

I have an Arcam dock already. I also have a Cambridge one floating about somewhere but I'd have thought the Arcam would be the better option.

If you're not 100% fussy about the audio quality, have a look at this:

Are they discontinuing the SB Touch or something? I was thinking of getting one...

EDIT - I googled it, and they are discontinuing the Squeezebox. What a shame, great device (I have two of the SB3's and have been recommending them for years). I'm buying a Touch quick before they disappear.

Be warned about Spotify: it's free (with ads) on a Windows laptop, but the Android app is pay-only (£9.99 a month).

I've just got an android tablet and wanted to do exactly what you suggest using a Logitech Bluetooth speaker adaptor (which works great for the price) and was extremely disappointed to find Spootify had done this having used it for free on the latop for years.

Yes it does. I pay a single £9.99 fee for Spotify premium & it works on my Android phone too.
