just got some 2nd hand ones come to fit my shimano rings and the granny ring does not clear the middle on the ramps. Went and bought a middleburn which does not work either. Do I have to use raceface rings? this could be forcing me to 1 x 9.

S,

Any chance of a picture or 2 as I cannot understand your description/problem.

I am sure we can find a good solution as I have several different crank + ring combos.

useless with pics will try and do some to flickr but basically the granny ring is touching the middle ring so there is no room for the chain.

Without pix, is it possible that you need some spacer washers between the granny and the mounting brackets?

I have seen this on very old (1990s) chainsets, but not on recent ones.
Is it possible the previous owner ground the mounts down to clear a chain device?

Have used e13, RF and Renthal rings on my Atlas cranks with no problem - I am running 1x9 though, so no granny...

Sounds like you have the FR version of the atlas, you'll need one of these:

You'll need the above.

IIRC I have one from the Atlas set on the DH bike. In Morzine at the moment for the next week so can't check right away.
