does anyone carry more than four bikes on their Atera Strada DL 3+1 carrier? if so does it work ok? do you need to remove pedals?

am aware of towbar nose limits, etc.

also, do people both with the strap to the roof when using more than 3, or not?

thanks!

Not used that but a friend once put 5 bikes on their 3 bike rack thought 2 of them were kids bikes
the car was a peugeot 206 and it was way over the nose weight limit
It drove fine

It will probably be ok but not advisable

Bear in mind that the further behind the tow ball the centre of mass of the carrier is, the more effect it will have. The handbook for my car says that if the centre of mass is 60cm behind the ball, the max weight allowed reduces from 75kg to 35kg.

I think the noseweight limits are more applicable when towing, the shock loads from a caravan pitching on a bumpy road, during an emergency stop etc would put several hundred kilograms onto the bar, and if you have a standard (non-extended/alko) towball, they are normally rated at 3.5t/250kg noseweight anyway.

Plus the car manufacturers are probably trying to avoid overloading the rear suspension and factoring in a boot full of gear and kids.

Thanks. Can't see it being an insurance issue, as carriers for 5 bikes exist. It would be lighter bikes ion the outer, and agree nose weight shouldn't be an issue..... Might play and see!
